The Comprehensive Dua of Aisha(RA)
One day, Aisha(RA) was in her room praying, and the Prophet(SAW) entered her room while she was praying, and she was slow to take care of his needs. The Prophet(SAW) told her, “O Aisha, you must use comprehensive and concise supplications.” When she finished praying, she asked him: “O Messenger of Allah, what are comprehensive and concise supplications?” (Sunan Ibn Majah)
Then the Prophet (SAW) told her to say this through dua:
Exact Hadith Narration
Aisha reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, entered my room while I was praying, and I was slow to take care of his need. The Prophet said, “O Aisha, you must use comprehensive and concise supplications.” When I finished, I said, “O Messenger of Allah, what are comprehensive and concise supplications?” The Prophet said, “Say: O Allah, I ask You for all that is good, now and in the life to come, what I know of it and do not know. I seek refuge in You from all that is evil, now and in the life to come, what I know of it and do not know. I ask You for Paradise and the words and deeds that bring me close to it, and I seek refuge in You from the Hellfire and the words and deeds that bring me close to it. I ask You for the same as Muhammad has asked You, and I seek refuge in You from the same as Muhammad has sought refuge in You. Whatever You decree for me, let it result in upright guidance” (al-Adab al-Mufrad lil-Bukhārī, 635).

Overall, this hadith teaches us that we do not always have to spend a lot of time on our duas for them to be considered “good” duas. The story of Aisha(RA) when she could not do what she needed to for him on time. teaches us not to be so quick with our duas, but also not to take so long on them, especially if you are busy. We can implement this dua in our daily lives by saying this dua every day. This dua is great for asking Allah about the many different aspects this dua mentions; this dua is not restricted to any time of day or to any conditions. I always like to use this dua when I am going through a hardship. It calms my heart down and puts it at ease, reminding me that everything will be okay if you just have trust in Allah. The dua itself reminds us that no matter what we want, or how much we plan or hope, Allah truly knows what’s best for us, and that he has the best plan for us. Asking Allah(SWT) for all good, even when we don’t know what’s best for us, truly humbles and reminds us to always turn to Allah(SWT), because again, Allah(SWT) knows what’s best for us in this life and the Hereafter.
